A Wesleyan Faith
Open hearts, open minds, open doors — grounded in grace and Scripture.
Trinity United Methodist Church is part of the worldwide United Methodist Church, standing in the theological tradition of John and Charles Wesley. We hold to the historic Christian faith while welcoming honest questions and people at every point in their journey.
What Shapes Our Faith
- 01
We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who creates, redeems, and sustains all things.
- 02
We follow John Wesley's approach to faith: Scripture as our primary guide, read together with the wisdom of church tradition, the gift of reason, and the lived experience of God's people.
- 03
We believe in grace at every stage — the grace that goes before we ever seek God, the grace that justifies us through faith in Jesus Christ, and the grace that continues shaping us into Christlikeness (sanctifying grace) throughout our lives.
- 04
We celebrate the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Trinity baptizes infants and adults alike, and we set an open table at Communion — Christ's table is for all who seek him.
- 05
We believe the local church exists to worship God, form disciples, and serve our neighbors — in Martinsburg and to the ends of the earth.
- 06
As United Methodists, we hold our theology with what Wesley called a 'catholic spirit' — convinced of what we believe, but always in love toward Christians who see things differently.
This is not an exhaustive statement of United Methodist doctrine — for the full text, see The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church.
